INJURY CARE

Appropriate, aggressive care moves your injured worker through the treatment process quickly.

Medero Medical has focused its practice of medicine on care of the injured worker since 1985, continually establishing and improving treatment protocols. Our goal is to get the worker through the treatment process as quickly as possible to full strength, full duty.

Initial injuries are seen immediately!

At Medero Medical we recognize the importance of acting quickly and appropriately at the moment a new injury arrives at our facility. Once the individual completes their paperwork, our goal is to begin the treatment process immediately.

The physician gives the company representative a call following injury care.

We encourage a strong communication link between our physicians and the employers we serve. At any time during the treatment process, the employer or employee is welcomed to contact the physician for guidance or information. This process begins the very day of that initial injury. The physician will call the employer representative to discuss the injury, review the plan of treatment and answer any questions. Duty Status is faxed to the company representative.

The duty status is an important document that informs the injured employee and the employer of the duties he may or may not perform. The employer needs to know the type of restricted duty assignment for this individual. We give the employee a copy of the duty status for the employer, however to assure that they receive a copy promptly, we also fax one to the employer each time the patient is seen.

There is an occupational physician on call 24/7 for you.

All of the treating physicians on staff at Medero Medical are occupationally trained and experienced in care for the injured worker. They are available to you when our facilities are open as well as when we are closed. Simply call the office number and our emergency service will have one of our physicians call you back 24/7...it's that simple. This service is available to the injured employee, should they need to talk to a physician at any time about their injury. It is also helpful to the employer who has a minor injury outside of clinic hours. The advice of your, "company physician" is just a call away. Rechecks are seen on a time and day appointment.

When the injured employee returns for a recheck, they are coming to our facility by appointment. While this works as a convenience to get the employee in and out more quickly, it also helps to keep the individual compliant. If they neglect to keep their appointment, we will call then fax the employer and the carrier with notification.

We provide emergency care to injured workers.

Urgent care centers will not treat most trauma injuries. They typically send them off to the hospital. Medero Medical specializes in handling virtually every type of injury. We handle a higher level of trauma in-house resulting in care being administrated more quickly. This could also result in a considerable time and cost savings to the company.

The injury is followed with digital photography.

Many of the injuries we treat are digitally photographed throughout the treatment process. This becomes a permanent record in the chart and can be quite valuable should the case ever reach litigation. Additionally, all injury photography is loaded on to our secure network server and can be accessed real time by any of our provider staff. While this serves as an important teaching tool, it can at certain times also allow any or all of our physicians to consult with one another, just prior to a procedure they are about to perform.

Medications are dispensed right from our facility and become an important part of the individual's return to work program.

It is extremely important that the injured employee begins his drug therapy as quickly as possible. At Medero Medical we provide a first dose and dispense most medications to the individual before they leave the facility. This eliminates the visit the patient would have made to the pharmacy as well as any additional delays, such as late insurance authorization.

We recognize the importance of distinguishing between work and home when prescribing drug therapy for injury care. For most injuries our physicians prescribe non-narcotic pain medications and anti-inflammatory agents so that the individual can return to work and perform light-duty according to their restrictions, without light-headedness or difficulty. When indicated, the individual is then also prescribed controlled pain medication, however they are instructed to take it only after work, when they are in the comfort of their home will no longer be driving.

You can receive a post-accident drug screen at any ORHS emergency room.

If your injured employee goes to any Orlando Regional Healthcare System (ORHS) hospital emergency room for care, they can receive a post-accident drug screen. The patient must identify themselves as needing a drug screen and that they are a part of the Medero Medical program. They will then be transferred to the hospital lab department for the drug screen to be performed. By special arrangement, the lab will already know the specifics of the employer's post-accident testing protocol as a current customer of Medero Medical.

Transportation to and from the facility is available.

Some Medero Medical facilities provide transportation to and from the workplace for initial injuries and in some cases, appointment rechecks. Call your Customer Relations Manager to get the specifics of this new and exciting program.

Medero Medical manages care from the facility side.

Medero Medical completes the circle of care management, complimenting the close attention the employer and the employer's insurance carrier give to the management of each and every injury. It is that management at the care level that makes significant differences in injury length and the overall cost of care. As an example, let's look at back injury.

Industry statistics tell us that the number one workplace injury is a lumbar strain. At Medero Medical we recognize that a high percentage of lumbar strains improve on their own. Of the thousands of low back strains we have treated in the past two years, our average return to work, full duty, from a back injury is 14 days. This figure is further enhanced with a low re-injury rate.

The urgent care facility typically refers that same back injury out to one of their specialists immediately. In Central Florida it can take up to four weeks to see an orthopedist. When your associate makes that appointment the physician orders an MRI and other tests and has them come in for another appointmentthree more weeks go by. This is probably why the insurance industry tells us the national average for a workplace back injury is 45 days.

Time-honored policy and care protocols are developed, refined and practiced every day at Medero Medical. This appropriate, aggressive treatment provides measurable outcomes.
